about me

I was a very active child, who spent summers hanging out and swimming at the local open air pool and also enjoyed horse riding, running and hockey. When I got to secondary school, as with many girls that age, my focus shifted heavily towards going out with friends, dancing, drinking and having lots of fun. I spent my teens and early 20s enjoying life and adventuring without any strong focus on my health and fitness. At 24 I trained to be a secondary school teacher, and didn’t want to be a teacher who was constantly planning the next trip out for a fag break, so I quit smoking, and trained for the race for life. When I started running, I couldn’t make it to the end of the street without stopping to catch my breath. But over 6 months, I gradually increased my fitness, and completed the 5km race.

After qualifying as a teacher, I moved towns and made some new friends, who all went to fitness classes at the local gym, so I went with them. I fell in love with exercise to music - the buzz of moving together, learning choreography, the loud music, everyone pushing themselves as well as the social side of it. After attending classes for a couple of years, I did an Exercise to Music qualification, and taught a few exercise classes a week, after school and at weekends.

I quit my teaching job and went travelling to New Zealand in 2009. Since returning from this adventure, I have had 2 babies and never gone back to school teaching. When my eldest was 6 months I got a job teaching 3 classes a week at the local leisure centre, and have grown my business form there. I qualified as a personal trainer in 2018, and now split my work time between group exercise and personal training.

I absolutely love my job, and don’t really see it as work at all - just as my life. I always look forward to going to work. The group exercise classes that I teach are all classes that I love - spin, body pump, body balance, bootcamp, hula hooping, yoga. I love the feeling of being fit and strong, I love the buzz that exercise gives you, and I love to share that enthusiasm with other people, and encourage them to make it a part of their lives too. I love to see people go from being a nervous non exercising first time class participant, to a super strong, fit and confident version of themselves. I try to make all of my sessions fun and enjoyable, so that participants have a good time while they are getting fitter. I want people to come away from my sessions buzzing and feeling uplifted. I am very silly and enjoy being a twerp, and encourage my participants to let out their inner twerps too.

I've been a vegan for over 5 years now, and absolutely love it. I really enjoy food - cooking and eating - and have found that a mainly whole food, plant based diet is the best way for me to feel healthy and energised.

I love to hula hoop. As well as teaching hoop classes, I’m also a hoop performer, both as part of a double act, and as a solo performer, performing at cabaret nights, festivals and burlesque nights.

I work for the charity Lifeworks, working with young people with learning disabilities. We dance, move, stretch, laugh and hula hoop together. I love working with these young people, seeing their confidence grow, and see them having fun. It’s always a highlight of my week.evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
